What the houses need

It is the direction a lot of Pierrefonds houses are going, because a door without a handle reads calmer in a room that is already open to everything else.

What a kitchen in Pierrefonds usually needs

Pierrefonds is about twenty minutes from the workshop, out the 40 and north on Saint-Jean, or along Gouin if the river route suits the hour. We finished a full kitchen here in 2026, a handleless white and black job that is still one of the projects people mention when they call, so the area is not theory for us.

The borough is mostly bungalows, split-levels and semis built between the early sixties and the mid eighties, with a band of older and larger houses along Gouin where the lots run down toward the water. Ceilings are eight feet almost everywhere, basements are finished, and the kitchens were drawn small on purpose because the eating was meant to happen in a separate room. Nearly every project we quote here involves taking down at least one wall or half wall, and that is usually the first thing we talk about rather than the last.

The other recurring question is moisture and heat. Houses close to the river move a little more with the seasons, and a solid wood door will show that at the joints within a few years. It is one of the reasons we build most doors here in sprayed MDF, which stays flat, and reserve solid wood for places where the grain is the point. Where a house has already been renovated once, we also check what was done to the electrical and the venting before promising an integrated hood, because a recirculating unit hidden in a cabinet is not the same appliance as a ducted one.

What we usually end up drawing

Handleless or slim shaker fronts in sprayed MDF. Uppers to the ceiling with the bulkhead removed where it turns out to be empty. A peninsula or a modest island, sized for the walkway rather than for the drawing. Integrated dishwasher and panelled fridge where the kitchen is visible from the living room. A quartz counter with a full height backsplash in the same stone, which is the single detail that makes a small kitchen look like it was designed rather than assembled.

How the visit works

We come to the house, measure every wall and photograph the room. Free, usually within the week.
You get elevations drawn in AutoCAD, so the kitchen is settled on paper before anything is cut.
The price is written, itemised and fixed against those drawings.
Everything is built in Saint-Laurent, then delivered and installed by our own people.
The doors carry a ten year warranty, and the hardware keeps its manufacturer coverage.

How much does a custom kitchen cost in Pierrefonds?

It follows what is in it: linear feet of cabinetry, box and front materials, the number of drawers, whether appliances are panelled, and the stone. Handleless costs a little more than a shaker of the same size because the tolerances are tighter and the rails add hardware. We measure, we draw, and we hand you a written price. Both steps are free.

Can we take out the wall between the kitchen and the living room?

Very often, and it is the change that transforms these houses. We look at it at the measure and can draw both versions so you see the gain before demolition. Confirming that the wall carries no load is a job for a general contractor or an engineer, since their signature covers it, and we will say so rather than guess.

Are gloss doors a bad idea in a family kitchen?

They show fingerprints on the lower doors and almost nothing on the uppers, so the usual answer is to put gloss above and a matte or satin below. High gloss also bounces light, which is genuinely useful in a north facing Pierrefonds kitchen with one window. We will show you both under the shop lighting rather than describing the difference.

Do we need a permit from the borough?

Replacing cabinetry is interior finishing work and normally needs nothing. Moving a load bearing wall, changing plumbing runs, altering an opening or anything visible from outside goes through the borough office. We tell you which side of that line your project falls on at the visit, before any drawing is paid for.
